WHAT
WE DO
PROGRAMS & PROJECTS.
Below you can see the programs and projects The Union is and will be running to raise funds to assist farmed animals and a little about the education focus.
You can trial a 30 day plant-based diet here.
Rehoming Farmed Animals
Foster farms. Forever farms. Sanctuaries.
Assisting with the costs for: transport, vet bills, food, water, fencing, emergencies
and other needs. Contracts will be in place to protect the fostered and adopted animals from being sold for meat, dairy or breeding. Funds put aside to assist during natural disasters.
The Union believes it is a false economy to rent cheaper land in dry areas. The land chosen for the sanctuaries will be in a high rainfall area for better grazing (as feed is very expensive), provide shade and offer higher ground for floods.
Monthly donations keep the animals protected. One-time donations also assist of course. This is what keeps them safe.
If you are interested in fostering or adopting, or know of land to rent for the animals in the Northern Rivers of NSW.... you know what to do. To keep growing, we need to network.
Education About Farmed Animals
YouTube channels of course.
The Animal Sentience Alliance - Street education/outreach division of The Union.
This channel will also be documenting the journeys of the rescued/rehomed animals. To be launched. It will also show other farms will successful bull and other farmed animal programs. To encourage more to participate in the many options available.
Check out the channel's channel's
recommendations: documentaries -
Dominion, Earthlingsand many others. Vegan Educator Earthling E . The trailers for Cowspiracy, Milkedand more. Watch some vegan debates and interviews too.
Skate Competitions
As the punk vegan scene begins to emerge again, this is a great time to kick off a sk8 comp for the animals. To be held in the Northern Rivers of NSW. There will be loads of animal rights punk music pumped out to ears on the day.
Inline and roller skater comps too.
The entry fee to the The Animal Skate Comp will be donated to the The Union, so we can keep rehoming farmed animals.
Watch Punk Rock Vegan Movieto see what was going down back in the day.
This will spin you out if you didn't know about it.
Check out the global peaceful protest against animal cruelty. Inspired by skate protests and social quad (roller skate) roll outs. For all things that roll (walking cool too though). Organised by The Union.
Skitching protests too (skate + hitching).
Film Nights
for the Animals
Film nights to raise funds, and educate locals and tourists in the Byron Shire about The Union and the life farmed animals are facing. This will be a brief talk on the night.
Films showing: cult classics, animation, educational documentaries and concert films
Watch out for the halloween movie nights!
It's time for better snacks with movies, check ya popcorn. Looking at plant-based/vegan donuts and Japanese desserts as a starting point.
Hopefully the dessert range can grow.
Surf Competitions
As the surf community has many members focused on clean living - which often includes plant-based diets, and with GOAT Kelly Slaterbeing vegan, it seems fitting to also host surf competitions for the animals. Entry fees will also be donated to The Union. The Animal Surf Comp will be held in the Byron Shire. Famous for surf breaks and conscious living.
A bodyboarding comp is also in discussion, with one of the best in the world involved. *hint hint*
Creative and community engaging events is an angle The Union takes to gain awareness and support. If the snow was closer, we would hold snowboard comps too!
Shoot us some lines if this or the sk8 comp sounds like something you want to be a part of.
Events will posted on social media.
Native
& Companion Animals
During natural disasters - bushfires, floods, droughts and other heartbreaking events, The Union hopes to financially assist wildlife and companion/domesticated animal rescue registered charities.
As well as referring and promoting the organisations.
The Union encourages members of the public to attend workshops for wildlife rescue. This doesn't require volunteering afterwards, but helps with knowing how to rescue injured wildlife, including during natural disasters. Usually only a small donation is required.
