THE ANIMAL UNION
Why We Are Doing This?
The Animal Union was founded in 2023 to find new homes for farmed animals so they can live their natural life span. The attitude towards farmed animals is changing; many see them as pets/companion animals - members of their family and even best friends. The Union calls farms/properties where rescued animals permanently reside, forever farms. A great place for them to just be happy and free.
Many members of society follow animal rescue sanctuaries on social media and watch the growth of rehomed animals, not just in physical form but in healing mentally from abuse often endured - including what is allowed under animal welfare laws. The special connections formed between many of the animal residents are some of the most moving footage seen online.
More people are beginning to see that animals are individuals. This means they have personal characteristics, experiences and capabilities. A good way to observe this is by noticing what our pets/companion animals (non-human friends) like and dislike, then starting to understand that farmed animals also have likes and dislikes.
The 2023 Australian Animal Welfare Survey conducted by BehaviourWorks Australia found that approximately eight out of ten Australians see farmed animals as sentient beings - capable of pain and suffering. So, anyone who resonates with this is encouraged to focus on creating environments where more farmed animals can be safe.
The Animal Union encourages Australians to support the rehoming of rescued and rehabilitated farmed animals and bear witness to them living in an environment that is more than sufficient for their needs.
